All of our guests have started out with a traditional technique or pattern, but they’ve interpreted it in a whole new way. First up is Sarah Vedeler – you’ll be amazed at her technique for using machine embroidery to create quilt blocks. Then it’s time for rubbing techniques using oil paint sticks with Shelly Stokes. Next, we’re off to Chicago where Belinda Spiwak will show us a collage book with pockets. Finally, it’s the rail fence quilt pattern interpreted in a whole new way with Michele Muska and her abstract painted floor cloth.

Today’s episode introduces us to some new materials to incorporate into our art quilting.  Mary Hettmansperger leads off with metal embellishments on a quilted wall panel.  Her experiences as a mixed-media artist, weaver, and jewelry designer all come together in one project.  Next, it’s a new use for photos as the palette for your machine quilting with the 2 Jeannies – Jeanie Sumrall-Ajero and Jeanne Delpit. Then, Nancy Eha introduces bead embroidery as an embellishment in a segment filmed on location.  Finally, Pokey shares a very useful project: a quilted eyeglass case.

507
Sue Cavanaugh starts us out with a demonstration of the special stitches that she uses to pattern her art quilts. Then, we have two on-location segments back-to-back. First, meet Kristal Wick and learn a brand new way to use fabric to create beads. And then, Belinda Spiwak is back with another great project – today is an apron. Finally, we talk to Laura Gunn for a lesson on the design process – how do your favorite artists come up with their ideas?

Angles and lines play a strong role in today’s show. Carol Taylor is first featuring her couching technique from her—Arc – i- Texture collection. Then, meet Alma de la Melena Cox for an amazing process called telamadera fusion, using fabric, wood, and shapes. Next, celebrate spring with Rhianna White at Quilt Festival where we will take a tour of some quilts guaranteed to inspire. Finally, travel to Italy and France for a look at opulence and embellishment in fabric, with Luana Rubin.
